Here is another way we can reframe this conversation: What does it mean to take a knee? We take a knee when we are fatigued and need a break and we take a knee when we are humbling ourselves before God. Kneeling is a vulnerable posture. And kneeling is the posture we will all take one day on the day described in Philippians 2 when “every knee will bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.”

While Americans living in prosperous pockets of America cannot imagine what it would look like to have their entire livelihood wiped out, many Americans – those still seeking to recover from hurricane’s Harvey and Irma and those living in communities left behind by US economic recovery, can relate.
