Connecting Faith 6-25-18 | The Decline of Civility | Bruce Ashford on Letters to an American Christian
Three examples evidence the decline of civility among those with differing ideology in our society. Political viewpoint discrimination is untested in the courts but is being used and encouraged as a public shaming of sorts. As Christians, we are called to be civil when everyone around us is not in order that the truths of the Gospel may be witnessed through our public discourse.
Bruce Ashford’s latest book, Letters to an American Christian, deals with this same issue. The book models through a series of letters written to a college student how to utilize the art of persuasion and engage in public debate in a way that represents the Kingdom beautifully and interestingly. Bruce Riley Ashford is Provost and Professor of Theology & Culture at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a regular contributor for Fox News Opinion and has also been featured on National Public Radio, USA Today, and the Heritage Foundation’s Daily Signal.
