Lent day 11: The breastplate of righteousnessMarch 11, 2020
Continuing in our daily effort to live into Ephesians 6:10-20, having fastened the belt of truth around our waist, today we put on the breastplate of righteousness. There are two levels to consider here: Christ’s righteousness imputed to us and the righteousness we demonstrate as people who are sanctified by one degree of glory to another more and more into the likeness of Christ.
Remember, Christ put on this armor first. In Isaiah 59:17 we read the suffering servant of God as an act of salvation, “put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in zeal as a cloak.” This is the Lord’s battle and it always has been. He has fought this fight and He fights it still.
So, as you put on the full armor of God today as a Christian you put on Christ – by whom the battle has already been won.
