Lent day 13: The Shield of Faith is essential equipment, not optional accessory
Having put on the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness and the gospel shoes of peace, Paul now instructs us in Ephesians 6 that “In all circumstances,” we should “take up the shield of faith.”
We’ll talk next time about what the shield of faith does but today let’s note: it’s not an optional accessory.
Paul says believers are to carry the shield of faith “in all circumstances.” Not just at some times and into some places or for special occasions but in all circumstances. You never really know when you’re going to need faith because you never really know when the enemy is going to let loose in proximity to your life.
Think of all the directions from which the enemy attacked Job. That same enemy is prowling around your life right now looking for a soft spot or an unguarded opening. Have you got your shield of faith with you today? Faith isn’t an accessory, its essential equipment and we’re reminded by today’s text to carry it in all circumstances.
