Lent day 27 – John 5 – Evidence enough or never enough evidence?March 27, 2020
Where in the Word are you today?
I’m in John chapter 5.
A lot happens here and it’s tempting to linger on the healing of the man at the pool of Bethseda but Jesus’ teaching in this chapter about his identification with the Father, his work on the Father’s behalf and the evidence we have confirming his identity, must not be missed.
Jesus points out confirming evidence
from John’s testimony,
evidence from the Father Himself,
evidence from the Scriptures and
evidence from the miracles he performs,
and yet, people still don’t believe. Jesus knew you can’t argue a person to the point of faith.
But he also demonstrates there is sufficient evidence to believe for those who have faith. There can be no question that what a person believes about the identity of Jesus is the ultimate dividing line.
Read through John 7 to fully understand the division between those who believe and follow Jesus and those who do not. And yes, linger on the points where God’s Word provides the evidence you need to believe.
