Lent day 31 – John 9 – Believing is Seeing
Where in the Word are you today? I’m in John chapter 9 – and it’s all about faith: those who put their faith in Jesus and those who do not. There is no middle ground. You either see with the man born blind or, like the Pharisees, you are blind guide. You might read this chapter in conversation with II Corinthians 4:1-18.
Consider the difference between the statements: seeing is believing and believing is seeing. Which is true? Do you believe because you see or do you see because you believe?
We’re talking here about those whom Jesus describes as having eyes that see and minds that comprehend. Do you see what Jesus sees? Do you see the otherwise unseen realm and God present and active in our midst today?
The reality Jesus identifies in John 9 remains: there are those who, believing, see and there are those who do not see because they do not believe.
