Lent day 32 – John 10 – Reconciling the IrreconcilableApril 1, 2020
Where in the Word are you today? I’m in John 10 where we encounter Jesus as both the gate of the sheepfold and the good shepherd of the sheep. In verse 10 Jesus says, “The thief comes to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” He goes on to say, “I am the good shepherd who lays down my life for my sheep.”
The shepherd image is found throughout the Bible and clearly refers to God’s promised Messiah. But John has also told us that Jesus is the Lamb – how can he both?
Some thought Jesus was demon possessed because of what he said but they couldn’t reconcile that with what he did, casting out demons. Are there some things about Jesus that are hard for your reconcile? Today ask God, by faith, to help you see Jesus more clearly as we journey with Him as simultaneously the sheepgate, the Lamb of God and the great shepherd of the sheep who gives life to those who come to Him.
