Lent day 33 – John 11 – Backing up words with actionApril 2, 2020
Whatever else Jesus claims to be, the claim to be the resurrection and the life in the face of the death of Lazarus is either the ultimate truth or the ultimate lie.
But Jesus backs up the claim by raising Lazarus from the dead.
Lazarus, had been dead and buried for three days in a tomb. Understandably those present resist when Jesus says, “Take away the stone.” But then he reminds them that if they believed they would see the glory of God. So they took away the stone and Jesus thanks the Father and then he speaks to a dead man, “Lazarus, come out!” and out he comes!
Still bound in the graveclothes but walking out of the grave nonetheless.
Again we witness two responses: belief and unbelief. Those who believe worship. Those who do not believe plot to kill the man who just raised another from the dead.
