Lent day 34 – John 12 – Who is this Jesus?April 3, 2020
Where in the Word are you today? I’m in John 12 where, following the anointing of Jesus at Bethany he enters Jerusalem, hailed as the messianic king of the Jews. Less than a week later similar crowds will call for his crucifixion. The narrative is going to move at a brisk pace but there’s something special here we ought not miss.
Jesus says, “my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!”
And then a voice from heaven answers! “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
There are very few times the Father speaks from heaven into the narrative: at the baptism of Jesus, on the Mount of Transfiguration and here. Each time its an affirmation of who is Jesus is and in each case, the world sees, and some write it off as thunder. Indeed, God has spoken, may we not miss what He has said.
