Lent Day 39 – John 18 – Light, Love, Truth prevailApril 9, 2020
Where in the Word are you today? I’m in John 18.
The themes of John are all evident in this one chapter as the fullness of time arrives and that for which Jesus came into the world becomes evident. When they come to arrest Him Jesus identifies Himself as I Am and they fell to the ground. This is the Great I Am but that ultimate Truth is disregarded in turn by the religious authorities, his own disciples, the civil authorities, and the culture writ large. The Jews try him, Peter denies him, Pilate interrogates him and the crowds call for Jesus to be crucified. The world has set itself at emnity with God and yet God intends to deliver and redeem by an act so audacious even the Devil could not have imagined it. God would satisfy His own holiness by love and the world would meet grace in the face of Christ. Light would drive away darkness and life conquer death but between here and there lies the suffering of the Cross.
