Lent day 4: Stand in the Lord’s powerMarch 2, 2020
Yesterday we were called to be strong in the strength of the Lord and today we are called to be strong in the strength of the Lord’s power. Why repeat this idea? I suspect the apostle Paul knows our tendency to self-reliance and our propensity to think of ourselves more highly than we ought. Paul knows we need real power to stand against the Enemy and the power he’s talking about here is the power of the Cross. The very power of God – not our own. We don’t look to ourselves to conjure up this power, we look to God. We know we cannot stand and we also know God has and can and will. The armor Christ has already worn as the suffering servant Savior is battle tested and victorious. There is no power greater and there no power sufficient but that of Christ. Let us stand in his strength and let us stand in his power as we take God at His Word today.
