Lent day 5: Armor befitting ChristMarch 3, 2020
When I read Paul’s admonition in Ephesians 6 that we are to“Put on the full armor of God” I am reminded of the story in the Old Testament when David is offered the armor of King Saul that he might wear it into battle against Goliath. But the king’s armor is ill-fitted to the shepherd boy. Not so with the armor of God. It is fitted perfectly to Christ and thus to those conformed to Him. As the suffering servant Savior, Christ has worn all the armor described in Ephesians 6.
Isaiah 11:5 makes reference to the belt of faithfulness and righteousness and truth
Isaiah 59:17 speaks of the breastplate of righteousness and the helmet of salvation and in
Isaiah 52:6-7 we discover feet shod with the gospel of peace.
As we take God at His Word indeed we hear echoes of the OT in the New
