Lent day 24 – John 2 – how we re-present God to the world matters
Where in the Word are you today?
I’m in John, chapter 2, where I realize we are glimpsing the glory of God in the face of Jesus. We witness here the first of several signs or miracles of Jesus recorded in the fourth Gospel. And what is the first miracle John records? Jesus turning water into wine to preserve the joy of a newly married couple. We see here the power of Jesus over the elements – as if the water saw its maker and blushed in obedience to Him.
Then chapter 2 takes a turn. It was Passover and Jesus went up to Jerusalem; upon entering the Temple he was consumed by zeal for God’s house. He drives out the moneychangers and those who would suppose to sell God’s grace for their own gain.
John wants us to see that how we represent the Father matters to the Son. It makes us consider our calling to be faithful re-presentatives of God in the world today.
