Mornings w Carmen 4-15-2019 hour 1: Who won Game of Thrones and the Masters? and the power of empathy
G.O.T. may have been baiting their fans with threats of winter and tweets declaring, “The Great War is here,” but Christians know better. G.O.T. may have declared “You’re the true king” but all the while Christians around the world were heralding the arrival of the true King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus. “Hosanna in the Highest! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Meanwhile, in Augusta, the crowds roared for Tiger. Headlines announced the “Return of the King,” claiming Tiger Woods is “The Comeback King.” The Dallas Morning News on this Monday of Holy Week ran with, “Here’s your king!” above a photo of Woods walking toward what can only be described as a crowd of worshippers.
Into this week we walk in humility toward the hill where the ultimate game of thrones was fought and won. Hell was defeated and Jesus triumphed – indeed, to rise again as the Master of all. Take that message into your conversations of the day…
Belinda walks us through a journey from sympathy (sentimental love but without action), to apathy (I know but I don’t care), to antipathy (I see and I’m angry and I protest – but I do no good), to real empathy. She teaches us through her own journey of transformation (she met Hope, Esperance) the power of listening and then telling the stories of the suffering. Esperance, who is pre-literate, signed with her thumbprint – and there are millions like her.
What would it look like to walk by faith in empathy with them?
Ruth Kramer then joins Carmen to survey news from the frontlines of mission:
