Understanding Where We Are in the Covid Fight | Defining Conservatism and the Need for Government Competency
Mercy, mercy, mercy.
Where in the Word would you turn on a morning when you know you need mercy?
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
5 who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
6 The Lord works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known his ways to Moses,his acts to the people of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
9 He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.
10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.
11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
14 For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field;
16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.
17 But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to children’s children, 18 to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his commandments.
19 The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
I Peter 1:3 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
Titus 3:3-7 – For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. 4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
Psalm 25:6-7 – Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
for they have been from of old.Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me,
for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
Ephesians 2:4-5 – But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
Romans 12:1-2 – (read Romans 1-11) I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Lamentations 3:22-24 – The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,“therefore I will hope in him.”
I Peter 2:10 – Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Matthew 5:7 – Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Luke 6:36 – Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.
James 2:13 – judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
Mercy, mercy, mercy.
Zach Jenkins – Cedarville University
The U.S. has surpassed 500,000 Covid-19 related deaths. Zach Jenkins helps us understand this number alongside the dropping case number which may imply herd immunity is approaching.
Adam Carrington – Hillsdale College
A bill called the Equality Act is soon to be voted on by the House of Representatives. In general the bill is meant to provide various protections from discrimination to those who identify as LGBTQ. Adam and Carmen discuss some of the detail that may affect us if it is passed. They also discuss the need of competency in government, the definition of Trumpism, and that Meghan McCain is asserting half of women are pro-life…and why that matters.
