The Reconnect 5-12-17 | Celebrating adoption stories | Christian witness, marriage & morality | Juliana Taimoorazy on Faithkeepers
We take a look at some good news and celebratory adoption stories that are popping on the internet.
- Student Has No Idea Classmates Raised Money To Fly Mom From Nigeria, Has Sweetest Reaction To Graduation Surprise.
- Georgia couple adopts 7 siblings who spent years in foster care
- Video of child asking step-father to adopt him
All of these stories are mini-Gospels. This is how the Gospel becomes beautifully visible and real in a world where chaos and pain abound. How are you making the Gospel visible and beautiful today – because this I know, you have a neighbor or a co-worker or family member who is in despair right now.
Then, we look at the future of the Christian Church’s witness when it comes to morality. There is a new dividing line in the church, depending on what you believe the Bible says on sex, marraige, and gender. As Religion News Service writer David Gushee notes,
I now believe that incommensurable differences in understanding the very meaning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the interpretation of the Bible, and the sources and methods of moral discernment, separate many of us from our former brethren — and that it is best to name these differences clearly and without acrimony, on the way out the door.
The mind of Christ is not confused on these things, so we must turn to His Word to discern the truth.
In our second half, we talk with Juliana Taimoorazy, Founder of the Iraqi Christian Relief Council and Senior Fellow at Philos Project. She provides an update for us for Christians who are now returning to their homelands and what they face in the aftermath of ISIS’s destruction. The incredible story of Christians persevering and suffering under intense persecution in the Middle East will be beautifully told in a new movie: Faithkeepers.
