The Reconnect 5-17-17 | Pray, speak, and tweet consistently | Preparing for summer with abuse prevention
We begin with an update on a story we’ve been following since October, the imprisonment of Presbyterian minister in Turkey. Then, we look at the news everyone is talking about, the developing story surrounding former FBI Director Comey. Comey has been keeping notes and memos on his conversations with President Trump, and content of these notes is raising concern.
In the midst of this swirling political uncertainty this morning, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted out two Bible verses and it made journalists very nervous. So, I want us to ask us: do you pray with different words and in different tones than you speak or tweet? If you’re saying things to or about people that you wouldn’t say to God, then you might reconsider saying it at all.
As summer approaches, many of us send our kids off to camps and programs. As part of our preparation for the summer, we want to address risks of abuse. We speak with attorney Kimberlee Norris about what parents need to do and conversations we need to have to protect our kids. Kimberlee is Founder and Director of MinistrySafe and Abuse Prevention Systems. She travels the country training camp staff and volunteers on sexual abuse prevention. She reminds us we cannot prepare for a threat we do not understand and prepares us with questions to ask any children’s ministry.
