Reconnect One: El Roi, the God who seesSeptember 8, 2017
Reconnect One, with Carmen LaBerge
Do you remember Hagar? She’s the mother of Ishmael. Abraham and Sarah sent her out in the desert hoping that she’d be out of sight and out of mind. It is in Hagar’s story that we learn that God is El Roi, the God who sees a homeless outcast mother with her child.
How often do we try not to see the Hagars of our culture today?
When we see a homeless person what’s our first thought? I hope they don’t see me? Averting our eyes, changing lanes, going around the block if necessary – pretending we don’t see them.
These invisible neighbors are people whom God sees – and God sees us trying not to see them.
How might the world change if we looked our fellow image bearer in the eye and esteemed them in Christ? What does it cost to greet them kindly and when we are able, do more?
God sees – let us ask to have His eyes for our neighbors.
