Reconnect One: Epidemic LonelinessMay 15, 2018
There is story after story today about loneliness. The United Kingdom now has a minister of loneliness to deal with what researchers there describe as an epidemic. In Japan, lonely old women are shoplifting so they will get sent to prison where they will have care and community. From Amsterdam to America researchers are noting a rising tide of loneliness. But if the secular worldview is right and we’re ultimately independent autonomous beings, why should we ever be lonely?
Loneliness is actually an indication that we know in our depths we were made for relationship. We were made for relationship with God and we were created to live in community for fellowship with one another.
If you’re lonely today let me encourage you to do 2 things: connect with a church and volunteer in serving someone else. You could even think of yourself as a minister of loneliness to help others reconnect.
