Reconnect One: No Blame (just responsibility)
Just because something is not my fault does not mean it is not my responsibility.
Let’s admit it: we hate being blamed for things. Blame casting is almost never productive. But while something may not be my fault, if I am in a position to respond, it is now possibly my responsibility.
Just because I’m not the one who littered does not mean I don’t pick up the trash.
Just because I’m not the one who got pregnant out of wedlock does not mean I don’t offer care to the mother and her child.
Just because I didn’t own slaves does’nt mean I don’t bear responsibility to change the systems which perpetuate injustices in this generation.
No blame, just responsibility.
Blame always leads to defensiveness and entrenched positions. So it may not be your fault that things are the way they are but might it be your responsibility as an agent of grace, minister of reconciliation and ambassador of the Kingdom of Heaven to respond as God has made you able. No blame, just responsibility.
