Reconnect One: Rebirth Day
I was touring a ministry center where young women victimized by sex trafficking are recovering, getting an education, and learning to live as members of a family for the first time. They were robbed of their childhoods and many of them never went to school. The dining room was being decorated for what looked like a birthday party. The woman giving me the tour corrected me even before I asked.
“We don’t celebrate birthdays,” she said. “Most of us associate our birth parents with pretty horrible things. Here we celebrate re-birth days. And everybody here has one. The day someone saved you. The first day of your new life. The first day you dared to have hope.” And then she handed me a card. “Here,” she said. “It’s a re-birthday card.” And on it was printed I Peter 1:3-9. I assure you, I never think of being reborn to a living hope without thinking of her.
