Reconnect One: Serious TimesSeptember 27, 2018
Toward the end of their lives, John Adams wrote to Thomas Jefferson, “My friend, we have lived in serious times.” Serious times call for serious people who live serious lives applied to serious things. I contend that the days in which we live are no less serious than the days of Adams and Jefferson. The question is: do we recognize the signs of our times and will we be serious people, pressing the full force of our lives into the calling of our days?
The Men of Issachar were heralded in I Chronicles 12 for two things: understanding the times and rightly discerning how to live in light of their times. We must now do the same. We too live in serious times and in Christ, we are called to be seriously joyful or joyfully serious people – leading others to live right now to the honor and glory of a God who is serious about His redemptive Gospel plan.
