The new year is a year of the Lord | Poverty and Freedom | Thresholds or resolutions? | Christian withdrawal or engagement?
Carmen leads off with a brief commentary bringing the new year into focus. What’s your Bible reading plan for 2020?
Ben Johnson is back to talk about the rash of violent events targeting people of faith in the past few weeks. Ben and Carmen also discuss economic, social and other trends which illuminate the connection between freedom and human flourishing. Using Cato’s human freedom index, they examine the state of human freedom in 2020.
As we head into the new year Peter Kapsner and Carmen discuss the question of resolutions. Do you make them? Do you keep them? What about a different approach like thresholds? Are there things we could (should) leave behind in the year now past and enter into the new year willing to be conformed by Christ more into the person God would have me be? They also talk about the phenomenon of Christian withdrawal – based on an article in The Atlantic about St Mary’s, Kansas and Rod Dreher’s book, The Benedict Option. Are you tempted to withdrawal from the controversies and even conversations of the day and how do you resist that temptation?
